Can two different liability insurance policies be tapped for coverage on one accident?
In the arena of business insurance, an auto liability policy and a general liability policy could respond to the same incident or claim.
There is a great deal of comfort (for all involved) when the auto policy and general liability policy are with the same insurer. You may be able to save a few premium dollars by buying auto insurance from one carrier and liability insurance from another but the savings is not worth the anxiety of “what carrier will cover this loss”.
Having the same insurer for both policies will eliminate the question of “who is going to take the lead in this claim?” and it puts a stop to the question of “is this better covered under the auto liability policy or the general liability policy?”.
