Dental Insurance, Braces, and HSA Money

Braces aren’t fun for anyone, especially when it comes to paying for them!

Your dental plan may not cover orthodontia, so it’s always a good idea to check with your carrier to see what the policy will cover beforehand.

If your dental policy does cover orthodontia, be warned that there is typically a lifetime maximum of what the insurance company will pay. That amount is usually around the $1,000 range.

Whether your dental policy includes orthodontia coverage or not, if you have an HSA, you can use your HSA money to help fund the braces! Unlike your health insurance company, there is no limit to how much HSA money you can put towards braces.

Sometimes, dental policies can be hard to understand and navigate. So, if you have any questions about your dental policy, give Clevenger Insurance a call today at 574-267-2181.

The Best Time to Call a 1-800 Number

1 800

We are your insurance agents, the #insurancenerds, you can call when a health claim goes sideways, or when the doctor’s office is giving you a hard time about your health insurance coverage.

But what happens when your agent is out of the office? Or it’s a holiday and the insurance agency is closed for a couple of days, but you still need assistance?

Every health insurance carrier has a 1-800 number that you can call during business hours, at any time throughout the week.

That phone number can be found on the back of your health insurance ID card.

We’re all familiar with how 1-800 numbers work though, and sometimes it can be hard to connect with someone right away. Before you call, check out these tips on some of the best times to call a 1-800 number:

  • Statistically, Wednesdays and Thursdays are the best days to call to get through to someone faster
  • Mondays are the worst time to call and are statistically the busiest!
  • If you can, call first thing in the morning, or at least before noon
  • If there’s an option to have them hold your place in line and call you back, we recommend you take advantage of that so you’re not wasting your time on hold!

If you have any other questions regarding your health insurance coverage, or need the 1-800 number for your insurance carrier, give Clevenger Insurance a call today!

Your Physician’s Assistant May Not Be in Network

Physician Assistant

Have you ever made an appointment with your doctor only to find upon arrival that your appointment is actually with the physician’s assistant instead? In a post-COVID world, this is especially common as the number of patients needing to be seen far outweighs the number of doctors!

This is a good thing because it means you get to be seen in a timely manner despite your primary care physician’s hectic schedule. As your agents though, we want to issue one word of caution when it comes to your insurance and physician’s assistants…

Your physician’s assistant may be OUT OF NETWORK!

Yep, that’s right! Just because your primary care doctor is in network, doesn’t necessarily mean that the physician’s assistance is in network.

So, when scheduling your next doctor’s appointment, be sure to confirm with the receptionist who your appointment is with and then double check to make sure your doctor’s PA is in your network.

You can check for in network providers by going to your carrier’s website, calling the number on the back of your ID card, or by giving Clevenger Insurance a call at 574-267-2181.

What You Need to Know About Naming Your Child as Your Life Insurance Beneficiary

Child Insurance Beneficiary

When you’re taking out a life insurance policy for yourself, you’re most likely doing so to make sure that those you leave behind are taken care of financially. So naturally, if you have children, you’re probably inclined to name your child or children as one of your beneficiaries for the policy.

Before you do so, there are a few things you need to know about naming your child as your life insurance beneficiary.

  1. If the child listed on your policy is under the age of 18, the life insurance benefit would then go to the guardian you have listed on file.
  2. That guardian then has every right legally to use the life insurance money as they wish!
  3. If you want to make sure you have a voice on how that life insurance money is used for your child, then it’s imperative that you put it in writing – preferably a legal contract such as a will.

We know that life insurance isn’t the most thrilling topic of conversation and thinking or talking about it can seem morbid. But here at Clevenger Insurance, we believe it’s a topic of conversation that is essential for everyone! Your loved ones being cared for in the event that you can no longer do so is our top priority.

If you have any questions regarding life insurance or need a recommendation for an attorney to write up that will, give us call at 574-267-2181.
